See that kind of off center rifle cross hairs?
Well if you center those crosshairs….
BAM!
We are toast
and Asteroid 2005 YU55 turns most of earth into a mad max thunder dome sequel. |
Most Know Facts:
The Near-Earth asteroid 2005 YU55 is 400 Meters in Diameter, thats huge. That is 1355 feet. That is about 30% bigger then the Asteroid Apophis that has a lot of people freaked out.
To put that in perspective layout a grid of 16 square football fields each 100 yards by 100 Yards. Now connect them all in a square and put this Asteroid in the center and you would not see any of them. Zip. Got it? Bad News in a big package hurtling thru space at tens of thousands of miles per hour.
If it did hit us? Well I read an estimate on Apophis being something like the equivalent of 65,000 and Atomic bombs so lets call this one an even 100,000 atomic bombs hitting all in one place at one time……
But according to NASA it will pass within 0.85 lunar distances from the Earth on November 8, 2011. NO IMPACT!!
BUT That will be the closest that any Tracked Near Earth Object bigger then a meter or two has gotten to Earth without hitting it since they started the program so this will be a great learning opportunity for NASA and other scientists.
In Terms of space and Asteroids and the Earth that is amazingly close. So close that it should be easily visible to the naked eye.
Asteroid 2005 YU55 is 1300 feet of planet smashing fun coming near you on 11/08/11 – do you feel Lucky Punk?
The rest of this article is straight from the NASA website and unedited:
The upcoming close approach by this relatively large 400 meter-sized, C-type asteroid presents an excellent opportunity for synergistic ground-based observations including optical, near infrared and radar data. The attached animated illustration shows the Earth and moon flyby geometry for November 8th and 9th when the object will reach a visual brightness of 11th magnitude and should be easily visible to observers in the northern and southern hemispheres. The closest approach to Earth and the Moon will be respectively 0.00217 AU and 0.00160 AU on 2011 November 8 at 23:28 and November 9 at 07:13 UT.
Discovered December 28, 2005 by Robert McMillan of the Spacewatch Program near Tucson Arizona, the object has been previously observed by Mike Nolan, Ellen Howell and colleagues with the Arecibo radar on April 19-21, 2010 and shown to be a very dark, nearly spherical object 400 meters in diameter. Because of its approximate 20-hour rotation period, ideal radar observations should include tracks that are 8 hours or longer on multiple dates at Goldstone (November 3-11) and when the object enters Arecibo’s observing window on November 8th.
Using the Goldstone radar operating in a relatively new “chirp” mode, the November 2011 radar opportunity could result in a shape model reconstruction with a resolution of as fine as 4 meters. Several days of high resolution imaging (about 7.5 meters) are also planned at Arecibo. As well as aiding the interpretation of the radar observations, collaborative visual and near infrared observations could define the object’s rotation characteristics and provide constraints upon the nature of the object’s surface roughness and mineral composition.
Since the asteroid will approach the Earth from the sunward direction, it will be a daylight object until the time of closest approach. The best time for new ground-based optical and infrared observations will be late in the day on November 8, after 21:00 hours UT from the eastern Atlantic and western Africa zone. A few hours after its close Earth approach, it will become generally accessible for optical and near-IR observations but will provide a challenging target because of its rapid motion across the sky.
Although classified as a potentially hazardous object, 2005 YU55 poses no threat of an Earth collision over at least the next 100 years. However, this will be the closest approach to date by an object this large that we know about in advance and an event of this type will not happen again until 2028 when asteroid (153814) 2001 WN5 will pass to within 0.6 lunar distances.
OK thats it for this Asteroid 2005 YU55 is 1300 feet of planet smashing fun coming near you on 11/08/11 – do you feel Lucky Punk? article
December 21, 2012 The 2012 Doomsday Prophecy and the Maya Long Calendar – Part 2
In part 1 we gave you a little back ground on the Mayan Long Calendar and one really good reason for not believing that the Mayans were predicting the end of the world when they ended their long calendar on December 21, 2012. CLICK HERE if you want to read Part 1 to review the full idea.
December 21, 2012 The 2012 Doomsday Prophecy and the Maya Long Calendar – Part 2
So Part 1 said that there was no reason to believe that the Mayan’s knew the world would end right? It basically stated that if they were so smart then how come they didn’t know that they were going to be taken over by the Spanish. And if they couldn’t foresee their own demise as a civilization (there are millions of descendents of the Mayans so they did not die out as a people, just as a powerful civilization in the Americas).
Ahhh but what if I told you they DID foresee their own final defeat to the Spanish at Tah Itza in 1697? What if I told you that history states that not only did the Mayans predict their own loss to the Spanish but that this came during a period that was predicted to be a time of great upheaval for the Mayan? And that when the Spanish arrived on that fateful day the Mayans knew that they were coming and that they would lose to them so they just surrendered the city and fled into the surrounding forests leaving an empty city with nothing of value for the Spaniards to plunder?!
If I told you, that, and could show you were history proves that to be true, then might you be more willing to believe that the Mayans had some way of foreseeing the future? Would it not lend support to the fact that their long Calendar, that began before 3000 BC did not just happen to end on December 21, 2012 for the heck of it but because the Maya saw 2012 as the end of the world (fin del mundo 2012) and December 21, 2012 specifically as Doomsday? Just as they foresaw their own surrender to the Spanish in 1697?
December 21, 2012 The 2012 Doomsday Prophecy and the Maya Long Calendar – Part 2
Well, to quote Paul Harvey, now you are going to know the rest of the story!
I am going to get a little bit historical on you here but bear with me, we’re talking about fin del mundo 2012 here! The Maya Civilization reached its zenith around 1000 AD. Historians have debated what led to their slow decline over the next 500 years but there is no debate that it was the invasion by the Spanish that was the beginning of the true end. From 1521 – 1523 the Maya were decimated by disease brought to their country by the Spanish. Estimates run as high as 1/3 their population being wiped out (For me that is hard to believe since they were dispersed booth geographically and governmentally across a vast area). Nonetheless this weakened them considerably and led to their first major defeat at Battle of El Pinal and the subsequent capture of the major city of Utatlán by conquistadores under the command of Pedro de Alvarado in 1524.
The Spaniards continued invading and spreading throughout Central America until they took over the final Mayan City of Tah Itzá in 1697. Now here is where it gets really, really interesting.
The Mayan believed that time was cyclical with historical events and political events repeating in cycles, cycles measured by their complex calendar system which featured 20 years (7200 days) as one Katun and 13 Katuns as 256 years. And it is that cycle – 13 Katuns, 256 years that repeats and makes the future [predictable.
And so it was that when the Spaniards came to conquer Tah Itza that it fell without much of a fight. Because most of the Mayans had fled. They knew this final attack was coming. This invasion came 136 days from the start of Katun 8 (the 8th Katun in the 256 year cycle) and this reflects the Mayan prophecy that this was going to be a cosmologically mandated period of change and upheaval for the Maya.
So the Mayans own Calendar system predicted a cosmologically mandated period of upheaval for them, and that is exactly what happened. Their final major city fell to the Spaniards. They were vanquished as a civilization. You can read an excellent detailed, very complex, history of the Mayan civilization by clicking on this link
So if the Mayans cyclical calendar predicted the time of upheaval around the Spaniards assault on Tah Itza, then who is to say that the Maya Calendar end on December 21 2012 is not predicting the end of the world, the 2012 apocalypse?
And that then eliminates the single greatest argument against the Mayan Calendars end signifying the end of the world!
So 2012 Doomsday, do you believe in it or not? Read, think, discover and make up your own Mind!
One last thought, here is a link to an e-book by an author named Manuel Astorga Rogazy who lives in Chile and really seems to know what he is talking about. He has a unique, factually centered, heartfelt view on what the end of the Mayan Long Calendar means and what it means for mankind. It is thought provoking and from the heart. I think it is worth the $7 and the time to read it Click Here to get Manuel Rogazy's ebook.

The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prophecy – Part 1
In this Article, The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prophecy – Part 1, I give you the important information on the Maya Indian Civilization and their much talked about Long Calendar which ends on December 21 2012.
In this first part I am going to present the anti-doomsday, no end of the world, the Mayan calendar is not a prophecy argument.
In Part 2 I will present the opposite side of the argument and show how the Maya civilization may have predicted their own defeat by the spaniards (you can click on this link to go to the The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prophecy – Part 2 article,

The Maya Long Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday Prophecies – Part 1
The best place to start your 2012 Mayan Calendar Discovery is with understanding the basics of the Maya Civilization and their Calendar so you can understand what people are talking about when they talk about the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy is with
The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prophecy – Who were the Maya?
First a little background on the Maya Civilization . The Maya Civilization existed for almost 4000 years in South Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, etc. At their peak they were a very advanced culture with a knowledge of Astronomy, advanced architecture, writing system, calendar system. (too name but a very few of their accomplishments). If you really want to get into the Maya culture you can read all about it at: http://www.criscenzo.com/jaguarsun/maya.html. It is also worth noting that the Maya had many gods and were very spiritual people. Some believe that they had powers that we do not understand. Others think they were visited by extra-terrestrials. But this is all just a guess (How can you prove this about a civilization that was essentially wiped out over 300 years ago? NOTE: Their decendants live on, it was just he Mayan Civilization tthat was wiped out). At the hub of many 2012 Doomsday theorists arguments is the Mayan Calendar System. The Maya had a series of calendars of different lengths that aligned with the cycles of the Sun, the Moon and Venus.
The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prophecy – What is the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy About?
The core of the 2012 Mayan Calendar / 2012 Doomsday Theories – The Maya believed that time ran in cycles (not in a straight line like most people now believe). These cycles repeated and in some ways so did the events that went with them. Their calendar was basically composed of cycles within cycles. But it is the “Maya Long Calendar” that gets everyone excited. Why? Its current major cycle ends on December 21 2012. That is the end of the 13th Bak'tun of the current Mayan Long Count Calendar.
That's right. That is where the 2012 Mayan Calendar "2012 Doomsday" comes from:
- No next cycle.
- No next page to flip to.
- No December 22, 2012.
- No New years day 01/01/2013.
- Nothing.
- Zip.
And that makes some people think that the Maya new something that no one else does:
……..That the world would end on December 21 2012.
So, is that The 2012 Discovery?
Not so fast. I always like to find a simple plausibility litmus test (a simple way of seeing if an idea is a good one or not) before I believe anything. And in this case there is one really great test you can apply to this Theory. So follow me here and lets see if you agree with me that the 2012 Mayan Calendar ending that we just described is NOT the 2012 Doomsday prophecy that many believe and does not signify the end of the world (there may be other indicators of a 2012 Doomsday out there but right now we are focusing on the 2012 Mayan Calendar issue ).
OK For this theory to be true, that the end of the Mayan Calendar on December 21 2012 signifies the end of the world, the Maya had to be able to see into the future Right? It doesn't matter how they could, but in order to know that the world would end on December 21, 2012 they had to have a way of seeing into or predicting the future Right? And that is why they never had a Calendar that went a day farther but rather resets to 0.
But here is the kicker. The Maya were conquered by the Spanish. This was a lengthy process that ended with the Surrender of Itza to the Spaniards in 1697. Although the Maya were not wiped out this is noted as the end of their civilization.
So, If the Maya could see into the future why the hell didn't they see the Spanish conquest coming? Why not end their calendar on the day of the surrender in 1697? Why not plan a trap to defeat the Spanish? If they had been in contact with extra Terrestrials (people from outer space) why not get some of their weapons and store them in one of their temples until the Spanish arrived and then blow them to pieces? 2012 Mayan Calendar Doomsday Prophecy should have been any number of years in the 15th-17th century where they were slowly conquested and their civilization destroyed (including the burning of most of their written texts by brilliantly forward thinking Spaniards).
The point is, how could the Maya predict the end of the world if they could not predict the end of their own civilization or the advanced weapons that the Spanish would have or the hundreds of years of decline that preceded the Spanish?
So this is where this myth gets busted….or is it? You could go farther and state that decendents of the Maya do not believe that the end of the Maya Calendar is the end of the world. They believe that it is just the end of an age and a cause for celebration. So is that the 2012 Discovery? No end of the world? No 2012 doomsday? Just another year?
But wait. There is more to the Maya Calendar story. There is one little piece of information that could change this whole line of thinking and may lead you and everyone to believe that the Maya COULD predict the future and that would PROVE that the 2012 Mayan Calendar / 2012 Doomsday Prophecy could be correct!
Be sure to read part 2 of the Maya Calendar Story on our blog (at www.the2012discovery.com). You can click this link to read The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy PART 2

The Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri- Yes its for real
In this article on The Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri we tell you how to avoid it and give you the low down on this microscopic brain eater that has already killed several people.
OK -first an apology, its not a bacteria – . N. fowelri is a parasitic amoeba, but at the end of the day the fact is wether it eats your brain or gives you Primary Amebic Meningioencephalitis it doesn't matter, its microscopic, goes up your nose while swimming and it can kill you in as little as a day. Game over.
Makes the whole Parasite vs bacteria debate meaningless if The freaking thing goes up your nose (this is the truth straight form the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta) and destroys your brain tissue!!!
Where is the Jaws music when you need it? The Brain Eating Bacteria
Enters thru your nose while swimming then eats your brain…
The Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri, it goes up your nose and WTF?
Yeah thats right. This little bugger goes up your nose while swimming and then travels to the brain where it eats your brain tissue. And you were waiting all that time worrying about December 2012 for the Mayan Calendar doomsday prophecy!. Forget Asteroids and earthquakes. Invisible amoebas going up your nose and eating your brain is like 1000% worse.
YES the brain eating bacteria Naegleria Fowleri (parasite whatever) destroys your brain – apparently causing Primary Amebic Meningioencephalitis. Thats a big word for something that kills you!
Most of the rest of this article I distilled down from information at the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (the CDC). You can read their entire web page on this subject at this link:The Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri edu
The Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri, what the heck is it?
Naegleria itself is a microscopic organism. Thats right you can't see it coming. No shark fin. no school of piranhas, It is an ameba (single-celled living organism). It lives in warm fresh water like rivers, lakes, etc. But only the Naegleria fowleri species goes up your nose and eats your brain. Great. Just great. So you can't see the freaking thing and even if you could you wouldn't know if it was the brain eating Fowleri or not.
commonly found in warm freshwater (for example, lakes, rivers, and hot springs) and soil. Only one species (type) of Naegleria infects people: Naegleria fowleri.
OK so the Zombie land Bacteria is real, How exactly does the Naegleria fowleri get to me again?
According to the CDC "Naegleria fowleri infects people by entering the body through the nose. This typically occurs when people go swimming or diving in warm freshwater places, like lakes and rivers. The Naegleria fowleri ameba travels up the nose to the brain where it destroys the brain tissue."
You don't get it by drinking the water. It has to go up into your nose. You can get it from tap water or pool water that is warmer then 79 degrees and does not have enough chlorine to kill it.
OK so Where has the Brain eating Bacteria Naegleria fowleri been found?
Naegleria fowleri can be found any where in the world where there is warm fresh water. NOT SALT WATER! That is OK.
Its even found in the soil but since we don't go around sniffing dirt we are OK there.
Finally can it spread, can I catch it from someone else???
NO! You can't catch it.
You can't get it from pools if they have the right amount of Chlorine either.
SO HOW DO i KNOW IF I HAVE MICROSCOPIC BRAIN EATING BACTERIA UP MY NOSE AND IN MY HEAD?
Naegleria fowleri causes the disease primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), a brain infection that leads to the destruction of brain tissue. In its early stages, symptoms of PAM may be similar to symptoms of bacterial meningitis.
Initial symptoms of PAM start 1 to 7 days after infection. The initial symptoms include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and stiff neck. Later symptoms include confusion, lack of attention to people and surroundings, loss of balance, seizures, and hallucinations.
After the start of symptoms, the disease progresses rapidly and usually causes death within 1 to 12 days.
So how many brains have these micro brain suckers consumed in the last year?
Thankfully these are rare and about 35 people have had their brains eaten in the last decade.
OK. I thought the mind was a terrible thing to waste? I don't know about you but even 1 brain eaten is one to many for me!
OK thats it for this Brain Eating Bacteria – Naegleria Fowleri article.

August 17 2011 Nuclear Radiation from the Japanese Nuclear Disaster reached Claifornia much quicker then originally believed
This article summarizes the most recent information on the Japanese Nuclear Disaster. You can see this article in its entirey at HealthFinder.gov

MONDAY, Aug. 15 (HealthDay News) — New research finds that radiation from the nuclear plant accident in Japan in March reached California within days, showing how quickly air pollution can travel, but scientists say the radiation will not hurt people. "It's not harmful at all," said study author Antra Priyadarshi, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California at San Diego.
From March 13 to March 20, Japanese nuclear plant operators flooded a stricken and overheating reactor in Fukushima with seawater. The process created radioactive sulfur that was vented into the air in steam.
In California, researchers at UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography track levels of sulfur. On March 28, several days after the flooding of the reactor in Japan, they found "significantly higher" levels of sulfur in the air. The level was about two to three times normal, Priyadarshi said.
The researchers calculated that a bit less than 1 percent of the sulfur released in the air in Japan actually made it to the California coast. The rest of the sulfur in the air presumably landed on the ocean, she said.
May 24 2011 - Ok, as we predicted in our article may 21 2011 Doomsday, Harold Camping was again wrong and the Earth did not end, there was not a global earthquake and 200 million people did not rapture and go to heaven.
But now Harold is again saying he had it slightly wrong (just like he dis after his failed Septemeber 1994 end of the world prediction> Now Harold claims that this May 21 2011 was when God judged those who will go to heaven when the worldReally ends on…wait for it.. October 21 2011.
OK so this (October 21 2011) will be Harolds third strike and hopefully he will shut up and give back all the money that followers have donated during this several year long self created religous crisis.
Another thought is that Haroild is clearly not much into science or he would have picked 11/08/11 as his next end of the world date. At least that date would coincide with the near earth approach of the 1300 foot in diameter YU55 Asteroid that is coming way to close to the earth for comforts sake and will be visible to the naked eye. Nuclear Power Plant Emergency
Nuclear power plants use the heat generated from nuclear fission in a contained environment to convert water to steam, which powers generators to produce electricity. Nuclear power plants operate in most states in the country and produce about 20 percent of the nation’s power. Nearly 3 million Americans live within 10 miles of an operating nuclear power plant.
Although the construction and operation of these facilities are closely monitored and regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), accidents are possible. An accident could result in dangerous levels of radiation that could affect the health and safety of the public living near the nuclear power plant.
Local and state governments, federal agencies, and the electric utilities have emergency response plans in the event of a nuclear power plant incident. The plans define two “emergency planning zones.” One zone covers an area within a 10-mile radius of the plant, where it is possible that people could be harmed by direct radiation exposure. The second zone covers a broader area, usually up to a 50-mile radius from the plant, where radioactive materials could contaminate water supplies, food crops, and livestock.
The potential danger from an accident at a nuclear power plant is exposure to radiation. This exposure could come from the release of radioactive material from the plant into the environment, usually characterized by a plume (cloud-like formation) of radioactive gases and particles. The major hazards to people in the vicinity of the plume are radiation exposure to the body from the cloud and particles deposited on the ground, inhalation of radioactive materials, and ingestion of radioactive materials.
Radioactive materials are composed of atoms that are unstable. An unstable atom gives off its excess energy until it becomes stable. The energy emitted is radiation. Each of us is exposed to radiation daily from natural sources, including the Sun and the Earth. Small traces of radiation are present in food and water. Radiation also is released from man-made sources such as X-ray machines, television sets, and microwave ovens. Radiation has a cumulative effect. The longer a person is exposed to radiation, the greater the effect. A high exposure to radiation can cause serious illness or death.
Although the risk of a chemical accident is slight, knowing how to handle these products and how to react during an emergency can reduce the risk of injury.

End of the World
MANILA, Philippines – A fired-up preacher was drawing out from his supply of imagery to describe the end of the world. “Thunder will boom,” he fulminated. “Rivers will overflow. Flames will shoot down from heaven and the earth will quake violently… Darkness will fall over the world!” Whereupon a small boy in the congregation, scared and panicky by the preacher’s bombast, nudged his father and …
